Torben Kuhlmann studierte Illustration und Kommunikationsdesign an der HAW Hamburg mit Schwerpunkt Buchillustration. Im Juni 2012 schloss er sein Studium mit dem Kinderbuch 'Lindbergh - Die abenteuerliche Geschichte einer fliegenden Maus' ab. 'Lindbergh' war Kuhlmanns erstes Bilderbuch und wurde auch international vielfach ausgezeichnet. Unter anderem mit dem Golden Island Award des Nami Island International Picture Book Illustration Concours. 2014 wurde Torben Kuhlmann mit dem Luchs ausgezeichnet und Lindbergh wurde von der Stiftung Buchkunst als eines der schönsten deutschen Bücher
