The development of lubricants has become an integral part of the development of machinery and its corresponding technologies. It is irrevocably and inter disciplinarily linked to numerous fields of expertise, and without this interdisciplinary aspect, lubricant developments and applications would fail to achieve success. Additives are synthetic chemicals used to improve different lube parameters they can boost existing properties, eliminate adverse characteristics or introduce new properties in the base oil. This book is concerned with synthesis of some ashless detergent/dispersant and antioxidant additives for lubricating engine oil and evaluate these prepared additives by using several techniques. Finally study synergistic effect of the best additives with commercial additives.

Hamdy S. Abdel-Hameed has received his BSc and MSc degree in organic chemistry from Ain Shams University. Currently he is working as a Research Assistant in the Department of Petroleum Applications, Egyptian Petroleum Research Institute, Nasr City, Cairo, Egypt. His Main areas of interest are Lubricating Oil Additives and Synthetic lubricants.
