Beschreibung
Breaking the ICE will include all information needed to enable Psychiatry Core Trainees (CT1-3s) to feel confident and competent in general adult inpatient and community placements, which make up the majority of Core Training experience, and inform subsequent subspecialty training posts. This is a practical guide to life as a psychiatrist, and will be structured around the tasks expected of a psychiatrist, both in day-to-day practice, and out of hours work. Vertical themes will run throughout the book, namely: * Ethical issues * Legal frameworks * Risk assessment and management * Safe prescribing * Communication skills * Multidisciplinary working * Transcultural issues * Transference and countertransference issues * Patient advocacy and the patient experience of illness and psychiatric services * Continuing Professional Development Approach Our approach can be summarised as passionate, pragmatic and reassuring. As psychiatrists closely involved in training, mentoring and supervising CT1-3s, we are aware of the challenges faced by junior psychiatrists. We want Breaking the ICE to give new trainees the sense that they are not alone as they set foot in the world of psychiatry, but are supported by a friendly senior doctor, who knows exactly what to do, and still remembers how overwhelming psychiatry seemed in the beginning.
