Due to the evolving global markets such as employment, education and tourism, English language teaching is becoming more and more of a necessity. The textbook is the main platform and source of educational content for pupils and a critical didactic aid for teachers within the educational process of language teaching. This publication analyses and compares English language textbooks and their significant impact on the teaching and learning processes. This publication discusses the functions, characteristics and components of the textbook. Additionally, advantages and disadvantages of using textbooks are critiqued. Lastly, it contains reasons for evaluation, approaches to evaluation and criteria for assessment. The research focuses on selected textbooks; evaluating and comparing them to provide a platform for future textbooks to be written.
Autorenportrait
Veronika Michaels was born in the Czech Republic and completed her Masters Degree in Teaching English in 2011. Actively educating; in classrooms and by way of multi-media based software, she has focused her interest in enhancing the quality of tools that aid teaching of English. The author now lives in Australia, working in education.
