In this work, we set out to analyze the inscription of appreciative and axiological modalities in the argumentative discourse of the written press. Our aim is to take a closer look at the ways in which discursive instances make use of different modal values to encourage readers to act in certain ways. After defining a few notions such as discourse, argumentation and modality, we proceeded with a meticulous analysis of our corpus, focusing on the identification of modalizers with argumentative power. To do this, we turned to Laurent Gosselin's modular theory of modality.
