Die Entwicklung des Faches Transfusionsmedizin zu einer selbständigen Disziplin begleitet die rasante Entwicklung der modernen Hochleistungsmedizin in der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts. Vor dem Hintergrund der Geschichte des Faches schildert das vorliegende Buch die Entstehung der selbständigen Abteilung für Transfusionsmedizin am Universitätsklinikum Erlangen und arbeitet vor allem deren Besonderheiten und Alleinstellungsmerkmale in der Bayerischen Hochschulmedizin heraus. Abschließend wird die Perspektive des Faches Transfusionsmedizin im 21. Jahrhundert beleuchtet.

The development of transfusion medicine to an independent medical discipline was going along with the rapid development of modern high performance medicine in the second half of the twentieth century. Against the background of the history of transfusion medicine, this book describes the development of the Department of Transfusion Medicine at Erlangen Medical School and elucidates the specialities and unique features of the department in the context of Bavarian Medical Schools. Finally, the perspectives of transfusion medicine in the twenty-first century are discussed.>
