1 History ComNets, RWTH Aachen University residence 1990 - 2008 1.1 Start in September 1990 COMMUNICATION NETWORKS (COMNETS), a chair in the Faculty of Electrical and Information Engineering at RWTH Aachen University, Germany, started in autumn 1990. At that time, research and teaching responsibility was hand-over to me from my predecessor PROF. DR.-ING. FRIEDRICH SCHREIBER. He was the Chair for General Electrical Engineering and Remote Data Processing 1972 - 1990. Schreiber's chair (and its staff) had a name for contributions to performance evaluation of computer communication networks, based on probability theory, stochastic processes, queuing theory, theory of scheduling and event driven system simulation. Besides contributions to the performance analysis of single server systems under sophisticated scheduling disciplines, Bayes statistics have been applied in rare event system simulation for, precisely, specifying the statistical uncertainty of results of simulation experiments with correlated samples.
