An overview on past, present and future perspectives in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) written and edited by Dr. Madhukar Saxena, India describes history and prevalence, classification, clinical diagnosis, examinations, complications related to T2DM and its management. The main focus of the book is on genetics of T2DM particularly with cytokines and adiponectin family cytokines. It also tells the brief account on molecular and cellular aspects of obesity and diabetes, role of inflammatory markers in adipocyte and preadipocytes, potential therapeutic prospects of adipocytes as well as role of mesenchymal stem cells and its therapeutic potential.

Dr. Madhukar Saxena earned his M.Sc. in Biochemistry from CSJM University, Kanpur and a PhD from University of Lucknow, India. Dr. Madhukar Saxena's research interest focus on inflammation and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Other areas of interest include biochemical genetics of diabetes, molecular and human genetics, adipocyte biology, etc.
